Dear Students, Families/Guardians,,

I’d like to take this opportunity to let you know that I am honored to have been chosen as Dean of Students for the Class of 2024, located in Adams House.  There will be lots of unconventional learning happening this year. It will be important for everyone to be engaged in the process, as we navigate these uncomfortable waters together. I am very excited to be a new community member at this time, when Newton has begun to gain momentum with regard to race relations. As a former METCO student with more than twenty professional years in education, I have lots to share. I last served as the Dean of Students at Cristo Rey Boston High School. I have spent time as a classroom teacher, coach/advisor and administrator in my career. I have a unique perspective from each lens and I am intimately aware of how important each of your roles are to the success of the learning environment. I invite you to help me learn as much as possible about our school.

I am enthusiastic about supporting all students, but particularly the disadvantaged in their pursuit of equity and wellness. This entry plan is a tool to help me to hit the ground learning. I will begin by speaking with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders, as you are first responders for our students. I would love to set up time to chat. My goal is to learn more about you and how we can best support our students together. I am a firm believer in collaborative work and look forward to meeting each of you and hearing your story.

Teaching should provide an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with students. In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. This moment in history calls for individuals who are equipped, willing and able to respond to challenges that an Antiracist society requires. My story is evidence of my preparedness. I look forward to working with and through Newton North and its greater community to make a meaningful impact, and bring people together. GOALS OF ENTRY PLAN 1. Foster collaborative professional relationships with all members of the Newton North community to better understand the history, norms, values, and traditions of the school community at large and to maximize the focus on student learning.

2. To gain a thorough understanding of the systems, practices, and policies established at Newton North High School.

3. Build a foundation for continuous improvement through the identification of strengths and opportunities of the school and school community and create systems that support a thriving and successful learning community. Best Regards,

Khari Roulhac

Adams House Dean - Class of 2024
