Dear Parents/Guardians of Freshmen,
Welcome to Newton North! I hope that things went well for your child regarding their first week of high school. Our primary focus is to help all of our freshmen have a smooth transition into Newton North, regardless of the learning environment they are in. One of the first steps is to meet some of the people involved in that effort, so please join the Newton North Counseling Department at:
Freshman Parent/Guardian Night
Thursday, October 1 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm
Zoom Invitation is Forthcoming
The evening will begin with a welcome and introduction from a few key people such as Principal, Henry Turner, Adams House Freshman Dean, Khari Roulhac, and Counseling Department Chair, Beth Swederskas. After the introduction portion of the meeting, you will have a chance to hear from your child’s school counselor. During that time, the counselors will provide general information about their role, the support they can provide, and tips for a successful school year. There will be time left for parent/guardian Q&A.
The school counselors are eager to begin supporting their students academically, socially and emotionally. One aspect of this support will be given in the form of a virtual Freshman Guidance Seminar. During the seminar, the freshmen will get to know their school counselors, engage in activities that will help them become familiar with school resources, and connect with each other to help build a strong sense of community. The seminar will occur during the weeks of October 6 and 13 in one of their Community Blocks. The school counselors will let their students know on which day to attend their seminar, through NPS gmail and Schoology.
We look forward to seeing you on Zoom on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 6:30pm!
