Good Evening NNHS Freshmen and Families,
We hope everyone is enjoying the final weeks of summer. We are writing to share our plans for an in-person Welcome Walk for Freshmen and students who are new to Newton North High School on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.
What: The Welcome Walk will be an opportunity for each member of the Class of 2024 to come to Newton North and join their Homeroom classmates for a walk into the Tiger Drive entrance of the building, commemorating the beginning of their new school year. Students are assigned a time slot and will arrive at staggered intervals on Tiger Drive in order to keep social distance. Upon entering, students will walk down the hall in order to see the location of the Adams House Office. Then they will exit the building through the back of the cafeteria to take a lap around the track as faculty and upperclassmen who are stationed outside will greet them with cheers and signage. This will allow students to celebrate the beginning of their new school year and the start to high school with their same grade peers and to see the faces of some of the faculty and staff who will be working with them.
Date, time & location: The Welcome Walk is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2020. There is no rain date. Participation in the Welcome Walk is completely optional. Students should arrive at the Main entrance at Tiger Drive Circle by their assigned time.
Schedule:

Safety and Health Guidelines for Attendance:
Only Newton North High School freshmen may participate in the Welcome Walk.
If anyone feels sick or has a fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell, they should not attend.
If anyone has potentially been exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, they should not attend the event.
We discourage people who are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 (due to an underlying condition) from attending the event.
Arrival/Drop Off
All participants must wear a mask/face covering before, during and after the Welcome Walk. The only exceptions are when a person is unable to wear a face covering or mask because of a medical or other disabling condition.
Freshmen are assigned to arrive at a specific time. At their designated arrival time to Tiger Drive Circle, signage and school staff will assist students to line up.
Students should keep a safe distance of 6 feet between themselves and the person in front of them.
Upon arrival, please follow the directions provided by signs and school staff for where to enter the building and to exit the building.
Departure/Exit/Pick Up
If you are picking up your child, please tell them exactly where to meet you after the Welcome Walk concludes.
Students must leave school campus upon the completion of the walk and upon exiting the track/field. Students will be exiting the field at Elm Road. For safety and health reasons, students may not congregate.
Other Important Notes
No food or drink is allowed.
Students and faculty/staff should not hug, shake hands, or touch each other.
We wish all students an enjoyable experience.
Sincerely,
Khari Roulhac, Dean of Adams House
Henry Turner, Principal
Amy Winston, Vice Principal
