Happy Friday NNHS,
We are writing to let you know that we will be having a “special” day at NNHS on Friday 9/25: “Supplies and Extracurriculars for Tigers 2020”. (S.E.T. Day) Normal classes will not be meeting on Friday 9/25 but it is still a full school day for students and staff. (Info will go to students and families later today) We have two big goals for this day:
Connect as many students as possible with as many extracurricular options as possible.
Distribute books and supplies that are ready for distribution
To make this day a success, we will need support and contributions from all faculty and staff. There are many ways you will be able to participate. Staff will have the opportunity to express their preferences via a google form (stay tuned). (Don’t fret. You won’t be overscheduled. Just remember: teamwork makes the dreamwork.)
If you are a club advisor, you will host and supervise the zoom sessions for your club that day. Each club will offer a few zoom interest sessions in a few different time slots. (stay tuned for information from Meghan Smith.)
TAs and BTs will support in person and remote students to access programming and supplies. Roles may vary by program/role.
You can provide tech support to remote and/or in the building students who are having trouble connecting with a club session.
You can offer a fun activity (virtual or in person) for any of our high needs students who do come to the building that day.
You can offer in-person support to any “in-person Friday” students who choose to come to the building that day.
You can staff the supply check-out in the SOA.
You can help deliver supplies/books to students who are unable to make it to North for pick-ups.
Some other notes:
Senior “Community Block” will still occur for students for Senior Seminars hosted by counselors.
Canceling classes on Friday will help balance out the Monday Holiday on 9/28.
Any team meetings scheduled for 9/25 will still occur and those invited are expected to attend.
This is our first demonstration of a commitment to extracurricular activities for our students this year. Extracurricular activities are one of the many ways that students learn, connect and grow thus this is a school day.
We will also be offering some tech support office hours for staff on this day.
High needs students who are scheduled to be in person on Fridays will still have the opportunity to be in person on Fridays. Students will be supported in accessing the virtual club day activities and/or picking up their supplies. Students will be supported by regular ed and/or special ed staff in doing so. (see next bullet)
We do need to provide programming in the building for some of our high needs students AND we want to make sure that we provide opportunities for special educators to participate in the extracurricular and/or supply and/or tech support portions of this day. For this to work, we need help in solidarity from our regular education colleagues.
One piece of our Back to School Night Strategy will be for each teacher to create a 5-minute-long loom video introducing themselves and their class to families. You can also use time on this day to create this video and/or get support from colleagues on how to Loom. Please, know we are also planning for a live virtual Back to School Night component as well. (stay tuned)
